My dad and one of his best friends are rather seriously Catholic. A few years ago I was talking about extraterrestrial life with them. How would our viewpoint change if we found that we are not alone in the universe (etc, you get the picture). So when I asked the friend (a priest) whether meeting aliens could affect his view that humanity was uniquely special (eg vs animals). He said "well it would depend on whether they had been saved". No amount of kintsugi could repair the fragments of my jaw.....
