why i love analytic philosophy
and other things i discussed on the Common Reader podcast
Happy Thanksgiving!
I really enjoyed appearing on Henry Oliver’s excellent Common Reader podcast the other day, so I thought I’d share the episode with you here.
We started with a chat about the ongoing analytic/continental debate that’s been raging here on Substack and also on Twitter. But mostly we were discussing the ongoing Solvej Balle series, On the Calculation of Volume, the third instalment of which was published last week.
Both of us love these novels, and have great fun debating our many philosophical theories about them. In particular, as I’ve mentioned here a few times, I think Balle is engaging pretty seriously with the container theory of time. I’m most of my way through writing something more in depth about this, which I’ll aim to publish here this weekend.
So while you wait for that, you can listen to this..
PS I just realised I said the term ‘serial comma’ quite a lot of times on this podcast when what I really meant was ‘comma splice’..
